    The term “hypalon” is used to refer to a wide range of polymers. Also known as vinyl chloride polymer or vinyl resin. PVC has been the most widely produced plastic in history and is still one of the largest volume plastics today. It was invented by Leo Baekeland in 1907.

    Hypalon was a chlorosulfonated polyethylene synthetic rubber noted for its resistance to chemicals, temperature extremes, and ultraviolet light. The chemical structure of Hypalon consists of two main components: ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, which provides elasticity and flexibility, and a chlorinated polyolefin that makes the material resistant to heat, cold, oil, grease, salt water, and other harsh environments. The chlorination process creates a crosslinked polymer with low permeability, making it suitable for use in many applications where oil or grease may be present.

    Working in sales in the rubber industry we receive many requests for “ Hypalon” rubber. The first thing you should know about hypalon rubber is that there are two types of hypalon rubber:

    1) The original type which was used in the 1960s and 1970s. This is a natural rubber compound with an added filler.
    2) A modern version made from synthetic materials such as polyurethane or silicone compounds.

    The most common uses for Hypalon rubber today are:

    • Insulation – this is probably the best known application for Hypalon rubber. The material is often used in building insulation and roofing systems.
      Flexible Roof Sheeting – this is another common application for Hypalon rubber. Flexible roof sheets have been around since the 1970s but were only really popularised after the introduction of the first generation of flexible PVC roofs in the 1980s.
    • Paint Roller CoversIf you ask someone what inflatable boats are made of, chances are they’ll say “rubber.” While that’s a good guess, not all inflatable boats are made of rubber. There are several reasons why Hypalon is considered a superior choice over PVC. Let’s go through them in detail.

    1) Durability

    When it comes to durability, Hypalon is clearly the winner. The reason behind this is simple.

    Hypalon is much stronger than PVC. This means that Hypalon can withstand higher temperatures without losing strength. Also, Hypalon is resistant to UV rays.

    Material Properties & Endurance

    The most obvious difference between Hypalon and TPU is that TPU is more flexible than Hypalon. It also offers better durability, withstanding higher temperatures, and can withstand salt water exposure without losing its integrity. The downside is that TPU does not possess the same high tensile strength of Hypalon.

    Another key difference between Hypalon and TPU is their respective cost. Hypalon costs about $0.25 per square foot, while TPU costs around $1.50 per square

    Hypalon is a polymer made up of two different compounds, CSPE and PVC. PVC is a polymer made up mostly of vinyl chloride monomer. Hypalon is a better choice than PVC because it has more uses.

    Hypalon is a polymer material used as a protective coating for metal surfaces. It is resistant to heat and UV light. It is also resistant to chemicals. Hypalon is a type of synthetic rubbers made by treating polyethylene. It contains about 20-40 percent chlorine along with a few percentage of chlorosulfonyls. These chlorosulfonyls are chemically reactive, and make this material vulcanize. The vulcanization affects the physical durability of the materials made from this material.

    PVC pipes are used for plumbing, electrical wiring, and other industrial applications. PVC pipes come in different sizes, shapes, and materials. PVC pipes are produced by various methods such as extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding. Chlorine atoms are added to vinyl chloride monomer during the chlorination process. Vinyl chloride monomer then undergoes a catalytic dehydrochlorination reaction to produce dichloroethane. Dichloroethane is cracked into chloroethene and hydrogen chloride. Chloroethene is then subjected to a free radical polymerization reaction to produce PVC.

    PVC is an inexpensive plastic made from vinyl chloride, which is used to make pipes and other household items. It is generally considered to be safe because it does not contain any toxic substances. However, it is flammable and should never be stored near open flames or hot surfaces.

    Hypalon is made by treating Polyethylene with Chlorine and Sulfur Dioxide.

    PVC is made by converting Ethane into 1,2 dichloroethane, Cracking of 1,2 dichloroehtane into chloroethenea, and then polymerizing chloroethena into PVC.
