HYDROGENATED TALLOW AMINE
Mainly used as a raw material for making surfactants, detergents, flotation agents, anti-caking agents for fertilizers, etc.
Tallow amines are chemicals derived from animal fat, also known as tallow. They are used in a variety of industries, primarily as surfactants. These chemicals can be used to manufacture food, soap, lubricants, candles, fungicides, disinfectants, shampoo, detergent, and other consumer products. They can also be used in the production of asphalt emulsifiers and corrosion inhibitors, various organic chemicals, and surfactants. Tallow amines are also a component of several agricultural herbicides, including Roundup.
Tallow amines do not dissolve in water. However, they can easily dissolve in ethers, alcohol, benzene, chloroform, and other solvents with similar chemical properties.
Tallow amines are produced using a reaction of ammonia with tallow (animal fat extract). Tallow amines can also be ethoxylated to create polyoxyethylene tallow amine (POEA). This chemical is known to be harmful to fish and other aquatic animals such as amphibians.
Tallow amines are widely used in mineral floating agent, waterproof softener of fiber, dyeing assistant, anti-static agent, pigment dispersant, anti-rusting agent, anti-caking agent of fertilizer, additives of lubricating oil, and germicide. They are also used for soaps, leather dressings, candles, food, and lubricants. They are used in producing synthetic surfactants. Tallow based alkyl amines are widely used in the synthesis of organic chemicals and cationic and amphoteric surfactants.
Tallow amines are a white or yellowish waxy solid with a special odor of beef tallow. Insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform, carbon disulfide. Due to the different preparation methods, usually contains free fatty acids, pectin and protein, such as for the manufacture of high-grade soap, need to be refined, remove the pectin and odor, improve color. The stability is better than that of lard and unhydrogenated vegetable oil. After alkali refining, decolorization and deodorization, it is light yellow to colorless liquid at 54 ℃. Tallow amines molecular weight is 269.51583000 g/mol. Hydrogenated tallow amine CAS number is 61788-45-2.
Polyethoxylated tallow amine (POEA) is a surfactant that enhances the activity of herbicides such as glyphosate. Tallow alkyl amines ethoxylated refers to a range of non-ionic surfactants derived from animal fats (tallow). Tallow alkyl amines ethoxylated is a UVCB substance. Based on properties for a similar fatty acid, tallow alkyl amines ethoxylated are expected to biodegrade and show some degree of sorption to sediments and soils. They are not expected to bioaccumulate. Tallow alkyl amines ethoxylated are of low aquatic toxicity concern based on data from analogous substances.
